Hockey Usa Vs Canada 2010

What did you think of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics?
1. Where you are from
2. What was your favourite part about it
3. What are your general thoughts about it
4. What did you think of the Canada vs. USA hockey game yesterday?
1. Vancouver
2. The crowds in downtown Vancouver. Up to 200,000 every night for a crazy street party just celebrating how good it all felt. A sea of red and white, but if you were flying the flag of any other country, it didn’t matter, we’d pick you up and bring you along for the fun. The way the Olympics brought Canada together and gave us the opportunity, just this once, to stand up and scream “I Love Canada” was truly phenomenal. It’s hard to explain to non-Canadians, but suffice to say it was a defining moment for our nation. Possibly THE defining moment.
3. Tragic beginning, there was so much anticipation for the games starting and then that awful, sad moment. Early struggles continued with a balky cauldron, bad weather and broken zambonis. But then the sun came out and created some sort of magic. Even though the Olympics were not doing so well, Team Canada was stumbling, and the British tabloids were suggesting it was the worst games ever… 200,000 people just came downtown to feel a part of something collective. And they did it the next night, and the night after that, and every night until the games ended creating an unstoppable momentum that transformed the games into something better and something more than we ever imagined they could be. My proudest moment as a Canadian, I have never cried so much in my life. (Again, hard to explain to non-Canadians or people who didn’t get to experience the energy in Vancouver)
4. Absolutely incredible, perhaps the greatest game ever when taken in context. As great as the Olympics were, they saved the best for last. And when the US scored with 24 seconds left, all I could think “wow, they found a way to squeeze even more excitement out of this”. USA should hold their heads high. They played the kind of hockey Canadians love and respect – grit, passion, determination – all qualities we used to think Canada had a monopoly on in hockey players. We know better now. And the overtime goal was one of those moments where years from now every Canadian will be able to you where they were Sidney Crosby scored.
